Lantern slide collection, [ca.1930-1954]

Contains lantern slides, nearly all taken by Buhle, most of which are hand colored recording the creation and development of the Garden. Main groups include botanic gardens and allied institutions including Brooklyn Botanic Garden, botanical education, gardening and floriculture, diseases and insects, genetics and experimental evolution, physiology, systematic biology of plants classified by form of reproduction, paleontology, and geology. The plants were systematically photographed with many close-ups. Another major subject is economic botany, which includes slides taken in the tropics, (probably not by Buhle) of growing, harvesting, and processing of beverage plants such as cocoa, coffee, and tea; of cereals; drug plants like tobacco; and fiber plants, fruits, and vegetables. The economic stories of sugar, rubber, and forestry are also fully portrayed. Slides are identified.

ca. 9500 lantern slides.
